Fall Meeting, 2021: Racine, Wisconsin

October 26 – 29, 2021

The DeKoven Center Racine, Wisconsin

The corona virus has definitely changed our lives! The Voyagers road trip to Racine was supposed to happen at the end of March, 2020. Given the challenges of a pandemic, the meeting was first rescheduled for November, 2020. It was next rescheduled for May, 2021, which didn’t work. So, now we have rescheduled one more time – and hopefully the last time – for October 26 – 29. 2021. You may register to participate in-person or virtually on Zoom.

Although we are very saddened at the death of our friend and colleague, Pete Steinke, (who originally was scheduled to offer a one-day conference for this gathering), we will continue with our plans to again “take the show on the road” and meet in Racine, Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Michigan, at the DeKoven Center.

Following check-in on Tuesday afternoon, there will be a Voyager-led session on Ministry in a Polarized Context. (This may change.) That evening, we will review how to lead a a clinical interview, in preparation for the Voyagers leading family of origin groups on Wednesday afternoon.

On Wednesday morning, the Voyagers will continue work on ministry in a polarized context by looking at case studies. Simultaneously, several members of the Voyagers will be presenting an Introduction to Family Systems for members of the community.

Wednesday afternoon, in conjunction with the Introduction workshop, Voyagers will assist with Family of Origin groups.

On Thursday, the day Peter Steinke was supposed to be with us, we will present Unpacking Pete: The Teaching Legacy of Peter Steinke. Guest speakers will be Rene Steinke (Peter Steinke’s daughter) and Emlyn Ott (Director of Healthy Congregations. Members of the Voyagers – particularly those who have known and worked with Pete since the early days with Rabbi Friedman, will present as well. We also will touch on Pete’s original theme of Conviction and Courage. This day is also open to the public.

We will finish with lunch on Friday.

Registration is open . If you are already registered, and wish to stay registered, that is fine. We’ll remind you early in the fall. If you would like a refund of your registration fees, please contact Michael Jupin. To register, click here.

Registration for the in-person Voyagers meeting is $300. Registration for virtual participation is $225.

The cost of Room and Board for three nights and 10 meals (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) at the DeKoven Center is $315. Double occupancy is $285.

If you have not already paid the 2020/2021 Annual Membership Fee, that will be added to your total ($100). This membership fee enables access to the Voyagers Online Library and presentation powerpoints for the calendar year. If you are unable to attend Voyagers meetings, you may gain access to these materials by paying the Annual Membership Fee.

Transportation: It is possible to fly into either Milwaukee Airport (MKE) or O’Hare Airport (ORD). If you fly into Milwaukee on Tuesday morning, we will provide transportation to the DeKoven Center. If you fly into O’Hare, check out the Coach Shuttle Express from O’Hare to Racine. We will make arrangements to pick people up at the Racine stop on Tuesday morning.
